Toy Collection Bin

Toy Collection Bin

Organisations can now sponsor a Ripple Toy Collection Bin -  a simple way for your staff or community to drop off unwanted toys and create real impact.

What toys can go in?

We can accept clean toys regardless of condition. This includes electronic toys and games, remote control vehicles, baby toys, building sets, stuffed animals, puzzles, cars and action figures.

What will happen with these toys?

All toys are hand-sorted at Ripple. Depending on their suitability, the great quality toys are given to not-for-profit partner The Toy Library Federation NZ to stock their libraries in lower socio-economic areas.

Overflow is gifted to children through existing community partners. Toys that are beyond repair are passed onto our community of recycling partners.

Why toys and why does Ripple care?

While clothing and shoes remain our top priority, there is no denying the environmental impact that toys have on the planet. We also understand the importance of play and the need for all children to have access to great quality toys.

This fits into our mission of supporting our kids, by providing them with what they need today and cleaning up the environment for their future. And while Ripple exists, we think we have a responsibility to give this a go.

This pilot, allows us to recirculate the great quality toys to organisations that need them and then use our system to process and divert end-of-use toys that would otherwise be destined for landfill.

Why are toys going to landfill an issue?

💦 The toy industry is the most plastic-intensive industry in the world with 90% of the toys on the market being made of plastic, which can persist in the environment for up to 500 years.

💦80% of all toys end up in landfills, incinerators or the ocean. This contributes to macro and micro plastic leakage impacting land, marine and air environments.

💦No matter where these plastics end up, they are emitting harmful greenhouse gas emissions while decomposing or being burned.
