Right from your place 🚪

Ripple is a circular social enterprise providing essential clothing to Kiwi kids living in hardship and diverting unwanted textiles from landfill through our reuse, repair, repurpose, recycling and redesign system. We equip kids with what they need and reduce the massive impact textile waste has on our environment.

WHAT WE DO

Ripple collects, sorts and distributes unwanted and outgrown children’s clothing (newborn to 12 years) from families, schools, businesses and excess inventory from retailers nationwide.

Through our community partners, we deliver Gear Box clothing parcels to children that need them most and pass on the not-so-great stuff to our community of repair, repurpose and recycling partners. Once entering our system, all clothing is reused or recycled and impact statistics are shared.

It is an easy way for Kiwis to tackle material hardship, textile waste and their carbon footprint.

we’re a bit different

💖 We’re a social enterprise, working towards financial self-sustainability through our circular model that tackles waste head-on.

💡 Rather than competing for funding that may not be there in the long term, we ask to be paid to process clothing. This means we can directly chip away at our mission, while creating jobs and much needed processing capacity in NZ.

🌏 With a dual focus on social and environmental impact, we are exploring ways to utilise our waste to help fund our work.

🚪 We make tackling hardship and waste easy, offering a range of options directly from your home, pre-school, school or business.

📦 We operate nationwide and accept items from all corners of the country. With every supporter receiving a breakdown of their impact.

here for a reason

The need

We suffer from one of the worst rates of child poverty in the Western world with one in eight kids going without basic essentials items.

The excess

Many families find themselves with an excess of outgrown or unwanted clothing and shoes and are wanting easy, sustainable ways to pass these items on.

The waste

Textiles are one of the fastest growing, carbon intensive waste streams, responsible for up to 10% of global carbon emissions -  alongside oil, gas and agriculture.

THE gear box

A Gear Box provides all the clothing essentials a child needs day to day throughout the year. These clothing parcels save families between $200-$400 per year and are distributed through Women’s Refuge, Oranga Tamariki Ministry for Children and Middlemore Neonatal Unit.

Families can receive one Gear Box per child per year, once these are outgrown they can send their items back through our system for either reuse or recycling.

BOOK A GEAR DRIVE

Support our work at your work by hosting a Gear Drive. Employees can drop in unwanted clothing into a temporary or ongoing collection station. It’s an easy and engaging way for your business to support both community and environmental good.

"The Ripple team are amazing. The Gear Drive was such a great way of making it easy for our staff to take part in a local sustainability initiative which has fantastic social and environmental outcomes." Carolynn Gubb, NZ Post Community & Social Impact Manager.

“The human impact of Ripple is substantial. This closely aligns with Downer’s values and with our sustainability strategy which is focused not just on our environmental footprint, but also on our social impact.”  Sandra McCormack, Downer Group National Procurement Manager.

because of you

We are able to make this happen.

For the women we support, it’s such a beautiful gift for them to know they have a whole year’s worth of clothes for their tamariki. The impact it makes to the women and children is huge.

Linda Thompson, Women's Refuge

We have had many whānau tell us how grateful they are as they struggle to have age-appropriate and good-quality clothing for their tamariki. It is great that we can pass Ripple Gear Boxes on to them.

Sue Gill, Oranga Tamariki

Mum of three boys, was so grateful and appreciated the help. It felt like Christmas. The youngest had to try everything on.

Oranga Tamariki staff

Mum was really excited to be able to gift some of the items to her son for his birthday, as well as to have warm winter clothes for all the children.

Oranga Tamariki staff

I just went through the box and you have made my day. They’re so beautiful and warm and wanted to express how thankful I am.

Recipient message

Both the (new) Mum & I were shocked at how much was in the Gear Box, and the quality was awesome.

Amy McDaid, Middlemore Neonatal Unit Nurse

The three boys are stoked with their box of clothes, they were wearing them when I saw them yesterday. Their Dad said they got some awesome gears and is very grateful and would like to pass on his thanks.

Oranga Tamariki staff

We are very grateful for the support. Having clothes for our fast-growing baby has helped a lot.

Recipient message
